Understanding Torque
Torque = Force × Distance from pivot. If you apply 1 N at the end of a 1 m wrench, you produce 1 N·m. In imperial, 1 lb at 1 ft = 1 lb·ft.

1 N·m = 0.7376 lb·ft. 1 lb·ft = 1.35582 N·m. For quick estimates: multiply N·m by 0.74, or lb·ft by 1.36.
Automotive Torque Values
Lug nuts: 80–120 N·m (60–90 lb·ft). Oil drain plugs: 25–40 N·m (18–30 lb·ft). Always use a torque wrench for critical fasteners.
